2008Team Ugands Sets off

We are off! After a confusing round of making sure all suitcases were full to weight restrictions with clothes for the orphans, it's time to make our way through security.

Thanks to everyone for your support, good thoughts and prayers.

And an extra big thanks to the man, (who ever you are), who volunteered to take the next flight out of MBS because the plane was to heavy!

Wound Kits for the clinic

Cady and Jenny led their respective "Christ-Care" groups through a P.A.C.K. party project, loading supplies in wound care kits for the clinc in Ikamiro. The kits were designed to all fit perfectly into a large roller bag to make the trip to Uganda.

The task force and 2008 mission team greatly appreciate the tremendous support we have experienced from so many people.

In case you missed it there is a big article in today's Midland Daily News. You can also check it out at this link: http://www.ourmidland.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=19234755&BRD=2289&PAG=461&dept_id=472542&rfi=6

Backpacks Ready

Posted by Picasa

Thank you to all who attended the P.A.C.K party for the mission team in Fellowship Hall on Friday January 18th. This catered dinner cleared well over $200 toward projects in the village of Ikamiro and the volume of items collected for the orphan back packs was amazing. Those attending enjoyed a simple Uganda-style meal of chicken, squash and potatoes, an introduction of the task force and mission team, and a photo presentation of progress on current projects in the village. The goals of the evening were certainly accomplished.

P--Participation in the possibilities.
A--Awareness of progress already made.
C--Celebration of God’s provision.
K--Kick-off for the Uganda Team.

Please continue to keep the mission team members in your thoughts and prayers as they represent our congregation and community on this important trip.

From what began in 2003 as a hand written letter from a villager in Ikamiro, Uganda Africa, to a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church, Memorial Mission Uganda was approved as an official ongoing congregational program, by the Session of Memorial Presbyterian, Midland MI, in June of 2007. The Memorial Mission Uganda Task Force and church congregation have celebrated accomplishment large and small in partnership with the villagers in Ikamiro. Projects have grown to involve other church congregations in Midland and other surrounding Michigan communities, including Blessed Sacrament, St. John’s, and St. Joseph/St. Anthony in Auburn, MI. Projects include delivery of a village ambulance, a village health clinic, a solar-powered vaccine refrigerator, blackboards for the school and a roof for the village Catholic Church. A Need for contributions continue for these projects and new projects in development, including a forth coming orphan sponsorship program to assist village children orphaned by the AIDS/HIV epidemic and other issues in Africa.
